What We Believe
At First Pentecostal Church of Laurel, we believe and teach the Apostolic doctrine as revealed in the Word of God.
One God
We believe there is only one true and living God.
-
“Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord.” (Deuteronomy 6:4)
-
“For in Him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.” (Colossians 2:9)
-
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” (John 1:1)
Salvation
We believe that salvation comes through obedience to the Gospel, following the plan of salvation found in Acts 2:38. This includes:
-
Repentance – Turning away from sin and committing our lives to God. (Luke 13:3; Acts 3:19)
-
Water Baptism in Jesus’ Name – Being baptized by immersion in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins. (Acts 2:38; Acts 8:16; Acts 10:48; Acts 19:5)
-
The Infilling of the Holy Ghost – Receiving the Holy Ghost with the initial evidence of speaking in other tongues as the Spirit gives utterance. (Acts 2:4; Acts 10:44-46; Acts 19:6)
This is the New Birth experience Jesus spoke of in John 3:5: “Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.”
Holy Living
We believe in living a life of holiness, both inwardly and outwardly, as a reflection of our relationship with God. Holiness is not just a set of outward standards but begins in the heart and flows into every area of life.
-
“Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord.” (Hebrews 12:14)
-
“Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.” (1 Peter 1:16)
We strive to live separated from the sinful practices of the world and dedicate ourselves wholly to God—reflecting His character in our actions, appearance, and lifestyle.
