Our History

Our founding pastor, Rev. A.W. Ishee, established the church at our current location in 1970. Burdened by a desire to see a truth-preaching church remain in Laurel, he founded First Pentecostal Church of Laurel. Rev. Ishee was a man of vision, unwavering faith, and deep compassion for people. Before entering the ministry, he served his country with honor in World War II, where he endured the hardships of being a Prisoner of War. This experience shaped his character and deepened his reliance on God, giving him a unique perspective on sacrifice, perseverance, and the power of prayer.

Following his return from the war, Rev. Ishee devoted his life to the work of the Lord, carrying the same courage and endurance he had shown on the battlefield into his ministry. His testimony of survival and God’s sustaining grace became a powerful witness to all who knew him. For over four decades, he faithfully shepherded this congregation, pouring his heart into every message and leading by example in holiness and dedication. His unwavering commitment ensured that the Apostolic message remained strong in this community, even through times of hardship and change.
Though the Lord called him home in 2012, Rev. Ishee’s legacy lives on through the countless lives he impacted and the firm foundation he established for generations to come.

In 2012, Bro. Hugh Davis stepped into the role of pastor, continuing this great legacy with passion and prayerful leadership until the Lord called him home in 2025. Though originally from Lauderdale County, Bro. Davis had a deep burden for the people of Laurel. After moving to the area, he quickly called it home and poured his heart into serving this community, both inside and outside the church walls.

Bro. Davis was a man of many talents, but his greatest gift was his ability to connect with people. Whether sharing a heartfelt conversation or offering words of encouragement, he had a way of making everyone feel seen and valued. His life was a testament to service—he proudly served his country as a veteran of the United States Army, worked as a dedicated fireman and game warden, and was known for his skill as a painter.

Yet, above all these roles, his greatest calling was that of a preacher. Bro. Davis passionately declared the Word of God with boldness and conviction. His ministry was marked by compassion, humility, and an unwavering love for souls. Though his earthly journey ended in 2025, his legacy of faith, service, and love for people continues to impact lives to this day.
